Cool Air
Humidifier
Also known as a cool mist humidifier, a cool air humidifier
works by pumping out a cool mist to humidify your rooms. This
mist is created by using a wick or filter which absorbs water
from a reservoir. A fan then blows the moisture out into the
atmosphere. This type is also known as an evaporative
humidifier.
One drawback is that the fan does make a noise. However,
some users don't mind the sound of the fan as it creates a
steady 'white noise' effect which can be very relaxing,
especially in bedrooms.
Users with children also prefer these types are there's no
chance of a child suffering burns.
One great thing about these types of humidifier is that
they're self-regulating. As the level of moisture in the air
rises, the evaporation rate from the wick slows.
Cool air humidifiers are available in a full range of types
including whole house, multi room and single room.
One popular type of cool humidifier is the ultrasonic. As
the name suggests they use sound waves to create the vapor. A
metal diaphragm vibrating at high frequencies creates water
droplets.
Some benefits to this type of humidifier
are:
- They're easier to clean.
- They can cover a greater area than warm air
models.
- They are safer as they don't boil water.
- They use less electricity as there's no heating
involved.
Some drawbacks to this type of humidifier
are:
- They make more noise than warm air models because of
the fan and water gurgling out of the tank.
- Some people report a clammy feeling at low
temperatures.
- They require regular filter replacement.
If you live in a warm environment and have children, cool
air humidifiers could well be the type for you.
